THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA IN ANTI-CORRUPTION POLICY AND THEIR IMPACT ON ECONOMIC SECURITY
Abstract
The article focuses on the role of mass media in anti-corruption policy and its influence on the economic security of the state. Corruption poses a significant threat to economic stability and growth, undermining trust in government institutions, increasing economic risks, and reducing the investment attractiveness of the country. In the context of globalization, the media becomes a key tool in the fight against corruption, acting as intermediaries between society and authorities, ensuring transparency and accountability of government actions. The study shows that the level of press freedom is a crucial factor determining the effectiveness of media in combating corruption. In countries with a high level of press freedom and journalistic independence, media-led anti-corruption investigations contribute to strengthening economic security by uncovering corruption schemes and encouraging government structures to adopt anti-corruption measures. A prominent example is the exposure of offshore schemes through the publication of the “Panama Papers,” which led to global changes in tax regulation and the strengthening of the economic stability of several states. However, in countries with restricted press freedom, the role of the media in anti-corruption policy is significantly weakened. Government control over the media limits the ability to conduct journalistic investigations and disclose corruption schemes, leading to the entrenchment of corruption and the weakening of economic security. The research also highlights the risks of media manipulation to discredit political opponents in authoritarian regimes, which negatively affects public trust in the media and reduces their potential in the fight against corruption. The article emphasizes the need to strengthen the independence of the media, protect journalists, and develop international cooperation in the field of anti-corruption investigations. These measures contribute to the creation of a transparent and stable economic system, which ultimately strengthens the economic security of the state. The study concludes that independent and free media are one of the key factors for successful anti-corruption policies and are essential for ensuring economic security at both national and international levels.
