CONCEPTUALIZATION OF ECONOMIC INTEGRATION PROCESSES IN THE SYSTEM OF INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC RELATIONS
Abstract
The article examines the conceptual foundations of economic integration within the system of international economic relations and substantiates the need for a clearer differentiation of the related categories used in modern economic discourse. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing scale and complexity of integration processes in the global economy, as well as by the persistent fragmentation and inconsistency of the conceptual and categorical framework used to describe them. The purpose of the article is to systematize scientific approaches to the interpretation of economic integration and to distinguish between regional and international economic integration in the system of international economic relations. The study is based on the methods of theoretical generalization, comparative analysis, systematization, structural-logical modeling, and morphological analysis. As a result of the research, a conceptual model of economic integration was developed, reflecting the interrelationship among processes, mechanisms, and outcomes, as well as the barriers affecting each of them. In addition, a structural-logical model of the relationship between regional and international economic integration was proposed, which made it possible to identify both their common characteristics and their fundamental differences. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the substantiation of a differentiated approach to the interpretation of regional and international economic integration. Unlike the widespread practice of treating these concepts as synonymous, the article demonstrates that regional economic integration should be understood as a political and economic process occurring within a clearly defined geographical region, whereas international economic integration should be regarded as a broader process involving the integration of national economies into the world economy through the reduction of barriers and the intensification of economic cooperation. The practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of using the proposed conceptual provisions for further studies of national economies in the context of globalization and for assessing the prospects and constraints of modern integration associations.
