AGRO-ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF UKRAINE-EU TRADE UNDER THE DEEP AND COMPREHENSIVE FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
Abstract
The agro-ecological aspects of Ukraine-EU goods trade under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement are highlighted. To achieve the goal of the study, the general scientific, as well as the special research methods are used (e.g., the experts’ assessments, methods of structural, statistical, graphic analysis). The papers of foreign and leading Ukrainian economists, the EU official documents, the publications of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine serve the information base for the research. The in-depth analysis of the dynamics of the commodity structure of Ukraine's exports to the EU, as well as the thorough analysis of the dynamics of the commodity structure of Ukraine's imports from the EU countries during 2016-2021 are made. The revealed trends of the dynamics of the share of the main product groups in Ukraine's trade with the EU countries are discussed. The development of foreign trade relations between Ukraine and the EU countries is examined, where special focus is placed on the products of the agro-industrial complex and the food industry, which make up almost 30% of the total exports of Ukraine to the EU countries. It is emphasized that the common agricultural policy of the EU is reviewed to solve the current problems of the society - economic, social, as well as contribute to confronting the issues of environmental protection and climate change, while in Ukraine the corresponding programs, strategies, etc. are mostly of declarative nature and are not transformed into specific mechanisms for their practical implementation. The objectives of The Common Agricultural Policy for 2023-2027 are the following: to ensure a fair income for farmers; to increase competitiveness; to improve the position of farmers in the food chain; climate change action; environmental care; to preserve landscapes and biodiversity; to support generational renewal; vibrant rural areas; to protect food and health quality; fostering knowledge and innovation. The necessity of using the EU experience in elaboration, modernization, simplification, implementation of agricultural and foreign trade policies with the aim of introducing advanced practices in Ukraine, is substantiated.
